How LinkedIn campaigns work

The exact objectives, learning-phase thresholds, budget floors, creative specs and policy rules the agent works from — rendered from the same versioned knowledge module, nothing added.

Integration status

OAuth + campaign creator are code-complete but publishing awaits LinkedIn Advertising API (MDP) approval. Knowledge, tips and generation work now; publish surfaces say so honestly.

Objectives

Every campaign starts from a goal. Each goal maps to one LinkedIn objective with its own optimization events, required setup and learning phase.

LinkedIn has no app-install objective — the engine honestly maps App to WEBSITE_VISIT (store-page traffic). Never presented as an install objective.

Text limits

FieldHard maxRecommended
Headline200 chars≤ 70 chars
Intro text· check docs600 chars≤ 150 chars

Headline: 200 is the API cap the draft schema enforces; ~70 chars show before truncation (same threshold the rules engine warns at).

Intro text: ~150 chars show before 'see more' (the engine warns there); re-verify the hard cap per ad format.

Creative specs

Ship the full ratio set per placement — serving one stretched asset everywhere is penalized by delivery ranking.

Policy rules

Blocks

Ads may not assert or imply knowledge of personal characteristics (health, finances, group membership) — same discipline as Meta's personal-attributes rule.

Blocks

Health/pharma, financial services and political ads are restricted per market; recruitment-adjacent claims must not discriminate.

Warns

Content must fit a professional context — sensational or consumer-bait formats are rejected or throttled.

Common mistakes

Over-narrowed audience

AND-combining many facets (title + seniority + industry + size) collapses the audience below viable scale; LinkedIn recommends 50k+ members — pick 2-3 facet types, not all five.

Consumer-style clickbait

Urgency/scarcity copy that works on Meta reads as spam in a professional feed and hurts relevance.

Desktop-only preview

Most delivery is mobile: check truncation at ~70 (headline) / ~150 (intro) chars, not the desktop render.

Editing during ramp-up

Frequent budget/targeting edits keep campaigns from exiting LinkedIn's ramp-up; give changes several days.

Working guidance

Professional and value-led: speak to the role and the buying committee, lead with the business outcome or insight, no clickbait, no consumer-style urgency.

Hooks

Open the intro with the audience's problem or a specific insight in the first ~150 characters; name the role you serve ('for RevOps leads') — self-selection beats broad cleverness on LinkedIn.

Funnel

Leads: B2B lead cost drops meaningfully when a warm layer exists: run Awareness/Engagement to the target profile first, then retarget engagers with the Leads campaign.

Creative refresh

Smaller audiences saturate: at typical B2B audience sizes expect fatigue in 4-6 weeks; rotate the angle (insight vs proof vs offer), not just the image.

Tone

Awareness: Thought-leadership framing (a claim your buyer would repeat in a meeting) outperforms product-first copy for awareness on LinkedIn.
